Hotel New Akao is a resort hotel in the scenic Nishikigaura—standing among the intricate rocks carved out by time, stunning scenery, and emerald-green surf—with three grand facilities: Ocean Wing, Horizon Wing, and Sparium Nishiki.
The Ocean Wing, rising above the coast with its dazzling pure-white exterior, is a high-rise hotel that radiates a vibrant and authentic Showa-era atmosphere. The Horizon Wing, perched atop a precipitous cliff, is a resort hotel with opulent Roman architectural decorations adorning its soft-pink exterior. Sparium Nishiki, extending out of a towering cliff face, is a hot spring facility with an array of baths, including the open-air infinity bath.
The hotel features a number of facilities that are unparalleled in Japan, including Main Dining Nishiki, a 496-seat restaurant evoking a giant opera house; Salon de Kinrin, which offers a three-sided panoramic view of the ocean and townscape that adorns the steep slope; Ocean Pool, an open-water swimming area connected directly to the hotel; and Indoor Pool, illuminated by sunlight. Fireworks launched against the backdrop of the breathtaking million dollar night view are another unique charm of Hotel New Akao.
Hot springs at "Hotel new Akao"
In Atami, 90% of the hot springs are over 42°C, with an average temperature of around 63°C. It is a bountiful hot spring with over 500 sources and over 16 tons of water gushing out every minute. It is a sodium-calcium, chloric hot spring. The nutrients are so concentrated that hands soaked in the hot spring water cannot lather up soap. The concentration is equivalent to putting 200 packets of bath salts in a household bathtub. The Atami hot springs, which are fed by heated rain and seawater, are also known as the “hot springs of heat” because their high salt content keeps you warm long after getting out. The hot springs were also highly regarded as an official hot spring for the Tokugawa Shoguns.
At the Hotel New Akao, you can indulge in hot springs drawn from three different sources: Sparium Nishiki, with its infinity bath that merges with the ocean and terraced baths that resemble terraced fields; Large Public Bath Saikai, where you can gaze out at the ocean while enveloped in the aroma of Japanese cypress; and Outdoor Bath Namine, where you can unwind to the sound of rolling waves.
Location of "Hotel new Akao"
Nishikigaura, where Hotel New Akao is located, is the gateway to Izu, about 1 kilometer south of Uomisaki, and has been designated as a Global Geopark by UNESCO, the organization that also promotes World Heritage Sites. It is a breathtaking location with cliffs formed by lava that flowed out to sea during volcanic eruptions and a view of Hatsushima Island, Izu Oshima Island, and even the Boso Peninsula on a clear day.
The main feature of the hotel’s location is its view of Atami’s townscape, which has been called the “Monaco of the Orient.” At the regularly held Atami Fireworks Festival, you can enjoy fireworks against the backdrop of a night view that is referred to as the “million dollar night view.”
The scenery, which changes its expression from moment to moment with the time of day, weather, and season, is always inspiring.
